The General Manager position is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the manufacturing operations within the facility. The role involves strategic planning, operational management, team leadership and ensuring that the facility operates efficiently, safely and in line with organizational goals.

 

Under the direction of the (enter who the GM reports to title), the General Manager will focus on the day-to-day manufacturing operations for the growing facility. Through empowerment, teamwork, on-the-job assignments and continuous improvement projects and initiatives you will develop and support your team. The General Manager is responsible for helping build and lead a culture of excellence in its manufacturing site and will lead Teams throughout the Manufacturing site.  

 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

Team Leadership:

  • Build and lead a high-performing manufacturing team, including supervisors, group leaders and support staff
  • Resolve day-to-day complications in scheduling changes, absenteeism, equipment breakdowns, and personnel flexing requirements
  • Set clear expectations, provide guidance, and foster a collaborative and accountable work environment
  • Plan and coordinate work, train and motivate Team Members, monitor and evaluate performance, counsel, document actions and discipline as appropriate
  • Responsible for hiring, staffing and retaining an engaged workforce
  • Travel, as necessary, to other plants for training and performance improvement opportunities

 

Continuous Improvement & Environmental, Health and Safety:

  • Develop and implement manufacturing strategies aligned with overall company objectives
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying and addressing any opportunities to reduce cost, improve processes and overall operations
  • Provide leadership in the growth and maturation of the continuous improvement culture through training, mentoring and facilitating Kaizen Events
  • Help set continuous improvement initiatives to drive short and long-term improvements
  • Create corrective action plans to outline, correct and resolve quality and efficiency issues
  • Serve as communication link between management and team members by keeping all Team Members informed of EHS related matters, developing programs and help to resolve EHS-related concerns, while promoting a culture of safety and heighten safety awareness
  • Effectively develop, implement and lead Emergency Response plans
  • Ensure communication, training and running of operations is in compliance with local, state and federal laws and EHS standards

 

Additional Functions:

  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of all processes and production equipment throughout Division
  • Learn and understand systems and procedures including safety, quality control, customer satisfaction, environmental compliance, employee payroll, production reporting, plant metrics, maintenance, etc.
  • Day-to-day operations and is responsible to achieve productivity, efficiency, schedule attainment, order-fulfillment (CRD), customer service, cost, quality, and safety objectives through both individual and team contributions
  • Increasing production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards
  • Responsible for production output, product quality and on-time shipping
  • Responsible for attaining budgeted P&L targets
  • Assumes ultimate responsibility for the quality of products produced and shipped to Customers
  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely and efficient sourcing of materials and components.
  • Maintain positive relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to ensure smooth operations.
  • Creates production schedule and directs production activities to meet sales objectives at maximum efficiency and minimum cost

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Management or related field preferred but equivalent combination of experience will be considered
  • Must have previous experience in manufacturing
  • 5+ years’ work experience that shows progressive movement, with 2+ years’ demonstrated ability at a leadership level in a fast-paced environment as a Supervisor or Plant Manager
  • Experience with fiberglass is highly desired
  • Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)
  • Strict adherence to company standards and safety procedures
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Ability to demonstrate high performance leadership standards and builds/develops high-performance teams
  • Strong desire to train and coach others to improve performance
  • Developed reasoning/problem solving skills
  • Strong accountability and follow-through skills
  • Strong tact and diplomacy; ability to work effectively with staff on all levels
  • Knowledge of 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and Value Propositions is preferred
  • A high level of personal integrity (self-esteem, confidence, honesty, and respect) are necessary qualities
  • Self-motivated to work independently in a busy environment with changing priorities and the ability to adapt
  • Facilitation and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organization
