Coyote MFG (a Patrick Industries company) is a marine manufacturing company specializing in custom trailers and aluminum products. Coyote is looking to add a Mechanical Engineer to support its growing operations in Nashville, Georgia.

 

Job Summary:

 

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving the mechanical systems and components of boat trailers for our customers and potential customers. They work closely with our team of engineers, designers, and technicians to ensure that the trailers and components meet safety, performance, and quality standards. This position plays a crucial role in designing and developing safe, reliable, and high-performance components and trailers that meet the needs of our customers.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with customers and vendors to ensure project specifications are met
  • Designing and developing new trailer models: This involves creating 3D models and engineering drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software. The engineer must consider factors such as weight distribution, load capacity, structural integrity, and aerodynamics
  • Conducting structural analysis: The engineer performs stress and strain analysis to ensure the trailer can withstand the loads and forces it will encounter during transportation. They may use finite element analysis (FEA) software to simulate and optimize the trailer's structural performance
  • Selecting materials and components: The engineer chooses appropriate materials and components for the trailer, considering factors such as strength, durability, corrosion resistance, and cost. They may collaborate with suppliers to source high-quality materials and components
  • Testing and validation: The engineer develops and conducts tests to validate the performance and safety of the trailer. This may include load testing, fatigue testing, and performance testing under various conditions. They analyze test data and make necessary design modifications to improve the trailer's performance
  • Continuous improvement: The engineer identifies areas for improvement in existing trailer models and implements design changes to enhance performance, reduce weight, or improve manufacturing efficiency. They may also work on cost-reduction initiatives to maintain quality and safety
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams: The engineer collaborates with other departments, such as manufacturing, quality assurance, and sales, to ensure that the trailer design meets production requirements, quality standards, and customer expectations
  • Compliance with regulations and standards: The engineer ensures that the trailer design complies with relevant industry regulations and standards, such as those set by the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) and the Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Supervise the compliance testing, whether completed in-house and/or outside contractor
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures
  • Adheres to all safety and housekeeping rules
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
  • 3D CAD Modeling experience, preferably SolidWorks
  • Two years’ experience with SolidWorks, AutoCad, Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Ability to manage own work without direct supervision
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • Strategic mindset with solid technical and analytical ability
  • Must have a valid driver's license (subject to MVR)
  • Work well with a variety of personalities in a cooperative team environment

 

Physical Demand and Conditions:

  • Typical office environment, occasional plant environment which is temperature controlled during the winter and can be above 90 degrees in the summer.
  • While in the plant environment you must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature occasionally.
  • Must be able to bend at waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds when necessary.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.
  • Must be able to freely walk around and climb on and off a variety of boats if needed
