AMC MSM, a division of Patrick Industries, is hiring a Shipping Manager to join their operations team in Elkhart, IN. The Shipping Manager oversees all shipping operations, ensuring timely, accurate, and secure shipments. This position plays a key role in planning logistics, monitoring transportation performance, and fostering cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong understanding of shipping systems, DOT compliance, and continuous improvement practices.
Responsibilities Duties:
- Oversee daily workflow of the shipping department; schedule and organize staff to ensure full coverage across shifts.
- Hire, train, and develop new shipping employees.
- Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations.
- Handle discipline and terminations in accordance with company policy.
- Provide ongoing coaching and support to subordinate employees.
- Monitor and manage shipping performance using Fleetmatics or similar GPS tracking software to ensure efficiency and proper routing of trucks.
- Lead planning and execution of effective logistics strategies, including load planning, route efficiency, and coordination with vendors and internal teams.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and safety procedures.
- Actively participate in shipability meetings to stay informed about product changes, shipping readiness, and operational updates.
- Collaborate closely with production, logistics, and customer service to resolve shipping challenges and avoid delays.
- Analyze and understand ERP shipping data (Microsoft Dynamics 365); assist with reading, interpreting, and updating shipping reports.
- Operate and train others in the safe use of forklifts and other warehouse equipment as needed.
- Research and recommend new tools, processes, or improvements to enhance shipping performance.
- Complete and maintain all required documentation and management reports accurately and on time.
- Maintain a clean and organized shipping area including outside shipping area and inside.
- Pick coils to be shipped.
- Point of contact for claims and returns.
- Skid count.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in shipping/logistics, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of DOT compliance requirements and shipping regulations.
- Experience using ERP systems (preferably Microsoft D365) to manage shipments and review reports.
- Familiarity with Fleetmatics or similar logistics tracking systems.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Excel.
- Proven ability to plan logistics, solve problems, and manage multiple priorities.
- Must be certified or able to become certified to operate a forklift.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to traverse and access all areas of the warehouse and shipping yard.
- Ability to operate warehouse machinery and forklifts safely.
- A high level of personal integrity (self-esteem, confidence, honesty, and respect) are necessary qualities
