Williamsburg Marine, a division of Patrick Industries, is adding a CAD Designer to their team in Milford, IN. The CAD Designer is responsible for developing clear, accurate, and production-ready product designs that meet customer specifications and manufacturing standards. This role requires independent judgement in evaluating design requirements, selecting appropriate methods, and ensuring that final outputs balance customer expectations with manufacturing feasibility. The CAD Designer will collaborate directly with internal teams, advise on design strategies, and participate in decision-making regarding product development priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Design and Development – Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings for marine furniture parts and assemblies based on customer specifications, internal standards, and manufacturing requirements. Exercise discretion in determining appropriate materials, tolerances, and production methods.
- Sales and Customer Collaboration – Work closely with the sales team and management to evaluate customer concepts, provide design recommendations, and propose alternative solutions where required to optimize functionality, cost, and manufacturability.
- Design Leadership – Act as a subject matter expert for CAD practices, providing guidance and mentorship to drafting support staff and production teams when interpreting complex designs.
- Print and File Management – Ensure accuracy, organization, and revision control of all drawings and CAD files. Implement and enforce best practices for documentation traceability.
- Process Improvement – Evaluate and recommend changes to design standards, workflows, and CAD systems to improve efficiency and consistency across the engineering function.
- Cross-Functional Decision Making – Partner with engineering, production, purchasing, and quality teams to make informed decisions that affect design viability, material selection, and production workflows.
- Compliance and Safety – Ensure that designs meet internal standards, industry codes, and safety requirements, providing professional-level analysis and documentation.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or related fields (or equivalent professional experience).
- 3+ years of experience as a CAD Designer in a manufacturing environment, marine, furniture, or custom fabrication experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of drafting standards, tolerances, material specifications, and engineering principles.
- Demonstrated ability to apply independent judgment in evaluating design feasibility, material selection, and production strategies.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Experience leading or mentoring drafting/design staff
- Familiarity with engineering change processes, file management systems, and document control.
- Knowledge of prototyping, production transition workflows, and lean manufacturing principles.
- Experience with marine-grade materials and furniture design.
- Self-motivated with proven track record showing the ability to prioritize multiple projects under tight deadlines and work independently with limited oversight
